41 Grados - Drinks and Tapas elBulli Style

By Javier Castillo - Feb/29/2012

Brothers Albert and Ferran Adrià’s new cocktail bar 41 Grados (conveniently located next to their restaurant "Tickets") sprang up last year and just in time for elBulli's eventual closure. This tiny space is buzzing with energy and keeps a trendy and elegant demeanor. Displayed on the walls are interesting pieces of art such as a bull´s head covered in spoons. This bar oozes industrial-elegance, with exposed pipes on steel beams, appropriate for the cosmopolitan cool city of Barcelona. I must say it has what Ive been looking for in an upscale establishment - a very modern and artsy feel while providing a cozy and very personal experience. And for those lovers of a well-prepared cocktail, try the margarita (my favorite) which comes presented as I've never seen before. The bartender works his magic and stirs up a unique version (ice-cold margarita, in a martini glass, covered with a layer of salted foam). Very elBulli-esque. Have one and you wont want to leave. In addition, some of the tapas offered at the Tickets restaurant next door can also be sampled at the bar and serve as a perfect compliment to your delicious cocktail. But don't take my word for it, try it out yourselves, you´ll be pleasantly surprised. Salud!
