Hotel Casa Fuster – A Modernist Chic Sanctuary

The 5 Star Hotel Casa Fuster Barcelona is a true luxury hotel that oozes elegance, sophistication and hospitality all while preserving that old-world charm. The landmark building itself is a prime example of exquisite Catalan Modernist architecture, and sits at the top of perhaps the most prestigious of avenues, Barcelona's Passeig de Gràcia. The building dates back to the early years of the 20th century, 1908 to be exact, and the design was that of Gaudi contemporary Lluís Domènech Montaner, another famous and admired architect of his days. Mariano Fuster i Fuster, a rich Mallorcan aristocrat who made his fortune from the cava industry, had this building built for his wife. The 3-year construction process and the fine materials used - such as high quality marble, slate and glass - made it one of the most expensive buildings of that period. In 2000, the Hoteles Center chain acquired it and then spent 4 years on renovation, maintaining and preserving most of the building's original infrastructure and design, yet giving it a slight 21st century feel.

It really is breathtaking from the outside and inside and has come to be one of my favorite places to have a late afternoon coffee or early evening drink at the The Café Vienés located at lobby level. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and rest those pretty feet, this is your sanctuary. If you want to meet a client or impress a friend, again, this is the place. And, if you are a lover of Jazz, then Thursday nights are not to be missed. The Café Vienés, transforms into a first-class jazz venue that has seen the likes of Woody Allen, Eddie Davis and other well-known acts, come to play for eager guests.
